WAY BACK WEDNESDAY!
Way Back Wednesday, we look back to the introduction of the ‘Coming thing in Modern Trotting’! The Mobile Barrier!
This image is an absolute gem from our NHRC museum’s archives.
Our picture by, Gene Lett, shows the first mobile barrier, owned by Bill Smith & Reg Martin. Which was first used in the trials at Harold Park and at Sunday gymkhanas around Sydney before being submitted to the “acid test” at registered meetings.
The Hunter Valley Trotting Annual 1966 guide explains “For as well as providing an even start it also proved invaluable as a draw card”. Most small country trotting clubs saw the immediate potential of the ‘then modern’ machine.
Have you ever sat in the back of the mobile?
Our source for today’s WBW came from the Hunter Valley Trotting Annual 1966!
