Removal of regional boundaries sees Sydney-siders salute

With regional boundaries removed as from 25 September, the last two weeks racing at Newcastle has seen the Sydney trainers dominate. Friday 2 October saw the 3YO heats of the NSW Breeders Challenge conducted at Newcastle Paceway with MAJOR LESTER ($34) taking out the first Colts & Geldings heat for KerryAnn Morris & Robert Morris, who also secured a training / driving treble on the night. Heat 2 went to BIG BLACK DIAMOND for locals Clayton Harmey & Tom Ison. Ison also drove PRIVATE SECTOR for Roy Roots Jnr and ROCKNROLLTONY for Rodney James to bring up a driving treble on the night.

The Fillies heats went to MICHELLE LEE MAC for Kerry McDowell & Colin McDowell and SMOOTHE STYLE for Michael Doltoff & Jack Callaghan. Callaghan scored a driving double on the night with Fullerton Cove trainer Lisa McDonald’s MASTER CATCH saluting in the first.

Last Friday 9 October, Sydney trainer Kevin Pizutto notched up a training treble with ARDEN MESSI ($1.40 fav), ROYAL BENGAL ($19) and SPOCK ($1.75 fav) triumphant on the 9 race card. Leonard Cain scored a driving double.
